The ‘5 for 5’ Program allowed 5 members the opportunity to present to the SMC for 5 minutes for only $5. It was fun, fast and informative as we heard from Annette Armstrong-Rutkowski - Wachovia Mortgage, Destiny Hampton - Atlantic Business Systems, Ursula Hirsch - Jason’s Deli, Cheri Martin - WCN interactive marketing and Robin Cote - Savings Safari. They each shared with us some exciting things about what their company does and what type of clients they service.

When Attending a Networking Mixer Follow These 10 Effective Tips!
ONE: Set a goal for the number of people you want to meet; don’t ‘stick’ to folks you already know
TWO: Bring plenty of business cards with you; when asked for a card give that person two, one for them and one for someone they know
THREE: Act like a host, not a guest; talk to people that you do not know and introduce those that you do know to others
FOUR: Remember that you are there to meet new people; move around the room and network, leave conversations politely by introducing them to a new person or tell them that you see someone you need to speak with
FIVE: Folks love to talk about themselves, so be a good listener; people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care
SIX: Prepare yourself with a 30 to 60 second elevator pitch that will educate the people you meet with your products and services; do not try to sell yourself to them – a networking mixer is about building your network and forming new relationships
SEVEN: The first time meeting someone you may not need their specific products or services and vice versa, but if you can give them helpful information or make useful introductions they will remember you when they or someone they know do need your product or services
EIGHT: Keep your business cards in one pocket and the cards you collect in the other; look at the card to make sure it has contact information on it, if it does not write it on card
NINE: Write comments on the backs of business cards you collect; putting pertinent information on the back of the card will help you remember them when updating your database and for follow-up
Ten: Follow-up!! To make the most out of the networking mixer contact those you met with an email, letter or phone call
